When I was taking a glance at Thursdays Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, I could not believe my eyes when I saw the price of Thomas Coopers’ Son Amix! At the time of writing this, he is available at a stand out 20/1 with Ladbrokes and Stan James.
Son Amix returned from 11 months off the track at Thurles at the end of November, he certainly wasn’t disgraced by his sixth place to Bishopsfurze. December 2011 saw him win a beginners chase at Punchestown by a neck, run over three miles and in heavy ground, the exact conditions that he will face on Thursday. To win a Thyestes you have to be a handicapper with a touch of class, that’s exactly what we have in Son Amix. Although his hurdle form only included one victory (28 length win in a Maiden Hurdle at Navan) it was still of a high calibre As a four year old he finished fourth behind Sanctuaire in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. Then a year later in 2011, he chased home Buena Vista in the always hotly contested Pertemps Final.
I’m certainly not a tipster but I think Son Amix is currently too big in the market. Given he acts at Cheltenham, I wonder if his target after the Thyestes will be the JLT Speciality Chase?
