Hi everyone, a Happy New Year to one and all!
I hope you have a good one.
Mal Boyle has just sent me his latest insights into the weekend’s racing with details of meetings at Dundalk, Thurles & Naas: the highlight of these being the Grade 2 Slaney Novice Hurdle at 1.40 on Sunday at Naas.
Here’s Mal’s take on the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
FRIDAY 06/01:
Dundalk:
General stats: James Ryan’s raider
Gaiety Theatre is potentially the lone stable representative on the card, the trainer having saddled three of his ten winners to winning effect at the venue.
There is no history attached to this meeting.
SATURDAY 07/01:
Thurles:
General stats: David O’Brien arguably boasts the best ‘coupled stats’ at Thurles, offering a level stake profit of eleven points via a strike rate of 3/11. David held two options on the card at the penultimate entry stage.
Two and a quarter mile Grade 3 chase scheduled for 1.05: Seven renewals have slipped by since a successful favourite was recorded.
Two mile handicap hurdle scheduled for 3.15: Six and seven-year-olds have equally shared the last four renewals. Five of the seven winners have carried a maximum burden of eleven stones. Just one favourite has obliged alongside horses sent off at 25/1-16/1-10/1-8/1-7/1-13/2.
INH flat race scheduled for 3.50: Six-year-olds have won four of the last five contests, whilst market leaders have secured three of the last five renewals.
SUNDAY 08/01:
Naas:
General stats: Peter Fahey’s only potential representative on the card was his course winner Owega Star in a Grade 2 event. Peter’s stike rate stands at 2/4 at Naas, having produced a level stake profit of eighteen points into the bargain.
Two mile three furlong maiden hurdle event scheduled for 12.40: Seven-year-olds have secured four of the last five contests, whilst the biggest priced winner was returned at just 7/1 via seven renewals thus far, stats which include three successful favourites. Dessie Hughes comes into the race on a hat trick, with Willie Mullins having secured the previous two contests.
Two mile novice chase event scheduled for 1.10: Three favourites have prevailed via six renewals thus far during which time, the biggest priced winner was returned at 9/2.
Two and a half mile Grade 2 event scheduled for 1.40: Willie Mullins held two options at the time of writing having secured three of the last six contests, coming to the gig on a hat trick this time around. Six-year-olds have won four of the seven renewals to date.
Two mile handicap hurdle scheduled for 3.10: We still await the first winning favourite, whilst six of the seven winners have carried weights of 10-13 or less.
