Malcolm Boyle is back again with a preview of the forthcoming racing from Clonmel, Dundalk, Navan, Cork & Punchestown over the next few days, culminating in the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase on Sunday.

THURSDAY:

Clonmel:

General stats: Clonleney potentially represents Adrian Murray on the card with the trainer having saddled three winners from just four runners at the track to date!

3YO maiden hurdle scheduled for 12.35: Although ‘only’ three favourites have prevailed during the last decade, nine of the ten winners were returned at odds of 8/1 or less.

Mares maiden hurdle scheduled for 1.05: Five-year-olds have won seven of the last eleven contests during which time, two clear and one joint favourite have prevailed.

Two and a half mile handicap hurdle scheduled for 1.35: Five renewals have slipped by without a successful market leader being registered, whilst five of the last six winners carried weights of 11-2 or more to victory.

Seventeen furlong Beginners Chase scheduled for 2.05: Six-year-olds have secured five of the eight contests to date, whilst favourites come into the race on a hat trick.  Four market leaders have won thus far with the biggest priced winner being returned at odds of 7/1.  All 88 horses starting at 15/2 or more have been beaten.

Two and a half mile Beginners Chase scheduled for 2.35: Six year-olds (favourites) have won three of the four renewals thus far.  The other market leader (a six-year-old) secured the silver medal.

Two and a half mile handicap chase event scheduled for 3.05:  All four winners have carried 10-12 or less, with six and seven-year-olds sharing the spoils to date.

INH flat race scheduled for 3.35: Five-year-olds have won three of the five contests.

FRIDAY:

Dundalk:

General stats: Tommy Stack only has one runner entered all week at the time of writing.  Tommy boasts an LSP figure of 51 points at Dundalk whereby Zvonareave could be worth supporting if offered the green light by the trainer.

Six furlong scheduled for 6.30: All three favourites have been beaten with a ‘haul’ of just one bronze medal to date.

3YO handicap scheduled for 8.30: All four favourites (via three renewals) have finished in the frame (two winners).

SATURDAY:

Navan:

General stats: Dermot Weld has saddled two winners from just six runners at Navan in recent years, therefore the choice of venue makes for interesting reading about his potential lone raider Tylers Cottage on Saturday.  Off the track for three years, the eight-year-old could be worth a saver if given his chance to run.

Two mile maiden hurdle scheduled for 12.45: Five-year-olds have won four of the five renewals, with a 14/1 vintage representative snaring the runner up position in the ‘missing’ year.  All five winners have scored at odds of 5/1 or less (one winning favourite).  All 109 runners at 6/1 or more have failed to score!

Seventeen furlong novice chase scheduled for 1.45: All three favourites have obliged.

INH flat race scheduled for 3.25: All four favourites have finished in the frame without winning their respective events.

SUNDAY:

Cork:

General stats: Although Willie Mullins and Noel Meade both possess strike rates of 26%, Noel has the better LSP of the pair (bordering on twenty points).

Two mile maiden hurdle event scheduled for 12.50: Five-year-olds have won four of the six contests to date during which time, three favourites have prevailed.  The biggest priced winner was returned at 9/2.  All 97 horses sent off at 5/1 more failed to score.

Grade 3 novice hurdle event scheduled for 1.20: Only one favourite has prevailed via five contests.

‘Hilly Way Chase’ scheduled for 1.50: Willie Mullins has secured the last four renewals and the trainer was responsible for two of the eight penultimate stage entries earlier in the week.  Golden Silver attempts the hat trick in the contest on behalf of the yard.  Six favourites have won during the last decade.

Grade 3 seventeen furlong novice chase event scheduled for 2.20: Five renewals have slipped by without a winning favourite being recorded since the inaugural market leader scored back in 2004.

Two mile handicap hurdle scheduled for 2.50: Three of the five favourites have finished in the frame without winning their respective events.

Two and a half mile novice handicap hurdle scheduled for 3.20: We still await the first successful market leader via five contests, four winners being recorded in double figures.

INH flat race scheduled for 3.50: The five favourites have snared just two silver and one bronze medal thus far.  Four of the five gold medallists carried weights of 11-7 or more to victory.

Punchestown:

General stats: Rapid Heartbeat was scheduled to contest the 12.35 event at the time of writing, potentially representing trainer Colin Bowe who boasts an LSP of 43 points via a 31% strike rate at the track.

Two and a half mile maiden hurdle scheduled for 12.35: The last three (of four) favourites have obliged.

Listed novice hurdle event scheduled for 1.05: Five-year-olds have secured seven of the nine renewals thus far, with vintage representatives coming to the gig on a five timer on this occasion.  All nine winners have scored at 13/2 or less (three winning favourites).

Two and a half mile handicap hurdle event scheduled for 1.35: The three clear favourites to date have obliged.  One of the three 7/1 co favourites finished in the frame in the other contest.  Five-year-olds have won three renewals, whilst a 16/1 vintage representative finished second in the ‘year that got away’.

Grade 1 ‘John Durkan Memorial’ event scheduled for 2.05: All ten winners have scored at 7/1 or less during the last decade during which time, five favourites have prevailed.

Two and a half mile Beginners Chase scheduled for 2.35: Favourites of one description or another have won three of the four renewals.
