Mal Boyle Stats – Saturday 10th

LATEST OFFICIAL WORD FROM CHELTENHAM AT AROUND 7.30 (THANKS TO STEVE FOR PASSING THIS INFORMATION ON): Cheltenham are saying they had 14mm of rain last night currently soft, heavy in places – like you say Malcolm, plenty more rain to come.

As Twittered in the dead of night : I don’t want to be accused of being a doom and gloom merchant but…..if Cheltenham have had the same amount of rain that we have endured in Bristol these last 14 hours, I wouldn’t offer anything higher than 7/2 that the FIRST DAY OF CHELTENHAM WOULD BE CANCELLED (WATERLOGGED)….the local radar has been suggesting that our rain has moved on through Cheltenham and will do again for several hours to come. There is precious little let up in sight over the next 48 hours – concentrate on heavy ground horses if Cheltenham has been hit as anticipated….

Yesterday’s leading advice regarding the positive thoughts for KALASHNIKOV and SAINT CALVADOS in the first two races at the Cheltenahm Festival has been endorsed overnight with all this rain.

Earlier in the week, I suggested that HIGHWAY ONE O ONE was a horse to watch out for today, with trainer Chris Gordon having held two options on Sandown’s card.  Chris has opted for the Imperial Cup and though the selection has no history of racing on heavy ground (don’t plunge in too heavily), his soft ground success last time out on Boxing Day suggested there was plenty more to come.  Before yesterday’s faller, Chris’s last six runners had secured one gold and five silver medals – best of luck if you play (each way) at around the 16/1 mark.
