Mal Boyle stats – Saturday 8th

One thing fascinates me more than most on big race days and that is where certain trainers target there horses away from the main meeting which on this occasion of course is Aintree.

Take Paul Nicholls for example who has supposedly been hell bent on winning big prize money this week in order to catch Nicky Henderson at the top of the trainers’ championship. Paul saddles eleven runners at Liverpool to back up those claims, though he has found time to declare two at Chepstow today, namely Boa Island (3.30) & Mont Des Aralois (6.05).

If you’re looking for a red hot trainer today to mix up some doubles and trebles, look no further than Colin Tizzard who secured a 4,334/1 treble at Aintree yesterday.  Colin has made six declarations for today ranging in price between 3/1 & 40/1; Unsafe Conduct (1.30 Chepstow), Morello Royale (1.45 Aintree), Finian’s Oscar (2.25 Aintree), Sizing Codalco (3.40 Aintree), Muffins For Tea (4.05 Chepstow) & Battle Of Ideas (5.35 Chepstow).

Another trainer who has not ‘forgotten her roots’ is Sue Smith who has entered Just Minded (2.05) & No Planning (3.55) at Newcastle for their NH card today.

Tom George has been busy too and his three runners at Chepstow are trying to improve Tom’s fine 5/14 ratio at the track today, namely Get Rhythm (4.05), Forgot To Ask (5.35) & Truckers Lodge (6.05).

Matt Sheppard secured a 75/1 double at Chepstow this day last year and Matt is four handed at the track this afternoon; Cry Fury & Act Four (2.50), Hill Fort (4.05) & Loughalder (4.40).

It’s difficult to think of Grand National Day without the name McCain springing to mind and sure enough, Donald has six runners entered today.  Donald has five runners at Aintree, even though he is without a runner in the big race.  The stable celebrated a 59/1 double yesterday and his half dozen today are as follows, Mr McGo & Desert Cry (1.45 Aintree), Golden Investement (2.40 Newcastle), Knock House (3.40 Aintree), & Cousin Oscar & Raise A Spark (6.15 Aintree).

On the level away from turf, Mark Johnston could be the man to follow having saddled four of his last eleven runners to winning effect (+7 LSP) – Baileys Showgirl (3.45 Lingfield), Nothing Compares (4.50 Lingfield), Blue Bahia (6.20 Wolves), Fruitful Promise (7.20 Wolves) & Sennockian Star (7.50 Wolves).

As for the big race, One For Arthur and hopefully, one for us!

Be lucky but also – be aware!
