Matron Stakes(Group 1)
Only 7 runners go to post for Saturdays Group One Matron Stakes at Leopardstown, and while the race may lack in quantity, this is more than made up for in quality. Each of the runners have a genuine chance of taking the spoils and an intriguing contest looks on the card.
Music Show has been unlucky on a number of occasions this season, with the draw conspiring against her in both the Newmarket 1000 Guinneas and Coronation Stakes. There is very little between herself and the other protagonists here but in a small field and with the excellent Fran Berry in the saddle, tomorrow may be the day she stakes her claim as the best of the classic generation.
Bethrah has done nothing wrong to date, winning all three starts this season, and it would be a mistake to think her Irish 1000 Guinneas win was a fluke result. Dermot Weld has done a fantastic job bringing her along slowly, and she must have every chance tomorrow.
Lillie Langtry, winner of the Coronation Stakes, was well behind Music Show last time, but on her day is a high class filly and has every chance again. On the balance of form, Music Show appears to have her measure but a big run must be anticipated from the Ballydoyle inmate.
Summary: A very competitive affair in which each of the runners has her chance. A tentative vote is given to Music Show, who appears to have everything in her favour here.
