Mobile Phone Access, Translations & More
I’d like to say a VERY big thanks to everyone who sent us comments and suggestions about the new website at the weekend. We picked up some really useful information, some great feedback and it enabled us to fix a couple of problems that we hadn’t noticed ourselves last week. This was the perfect example of many heads being better than one, or two, because we also received some fantastic feature requests, a couple of which we’ve been able to implement already…
Mobile Phone Access
This is a great new addition that enables you to access the latest content on “Horse-Racing.ie” via your mobile phone. If you use a mobile with an in-built web browser you always were able to view the site on your mobile in the usual way, but the majority of people have a standard phone that works as a text based interface and until now you either wouldn’t be able to access the site at all, or it would just have come across as gobbledegook. This is no longer a problem because we’ve just installed a version of the site that’s perfectly formatted for mobile access and if you now type in www.horse-racing.ie on your mobile you’ll be routed through to that.

World Translations
Over the last few months I’ve lost track of the number of emails we’ve received from visitors in non-English speaking countries asking if we could explain something on the site in a different way so they can understand it okay. Of course, this isn’t the easiest thing to do when you’re typically British and even barebones English presents its own problems at times
so we listened and came up with a solution.
Now what you can do is click on the relevant country flag from the “Translator” section in the sidebar on the right and it will translate the page you’re on into the language of your choice. As time goes on virtually the whole site will be translated, archived and available instantly when you click on a country flag, but in the meantime if no archived version of the page is available you’ll be redirected to Google’s translator.
Other Bits & Bobs
We’ve also added a “Share This” link to the foot of each post that easily lets you bookmark an article or review on most of the major bookmarking sites, submit it to social networking sites like Facebook, or Twitter, or send a quick email to a friend to let them know about something. You can try it at the bottom of this post.
Something else we added was a “Things People Say About Horse-Racing.ie” page that you can access from the “About” link on the top navigation menu, with a selection of the rather nice comments we’ve received lately. And also a links page with some useful betting and gaming links from around the web. If you run your own betting or gaming website feel free to drop us a line to ask about exchanging links.
More to come soon… stay tuned!
