Tranquil Sea completes his Cheltenham preparations at Naas on Sunday in the Paddypowerpoker.com Chase over two miles. While the trip may prove a little on the sharp side, Edward O’Grady’s charge is well in at the weights here and should be capable of seeing off main market danger, Scotsirish.
The Ryanair Chase is the likely Cheltenham target for Tranquil Sea, and the 2m 5f trip there will be much more suitable but he does already have a course and distance win to his name at Naas, and the stiff finish there will play to his strengths. While the other contenders are specialist two-milers they are in the twilight of their careers and if O’Grady’s inmate is to be a genuine contender at the Festival then he needs to prove too strong an opponent for this opposition.
Summary: A decent contest bringing together the usual competitors for the grade but the standout has to be Tranquil Sea and it will be a setback for connections if he cannot win this.
